Good question! Because the Cutter moves through the turf at a deeper level the impact of the ball on the club surface is higher which in turn allows for a higher loft shot without opening the face.
While the face is oversized, there is significantly less turf resistance due to the face shape: the center of gravity or CG is raised for spin control: also known as higher MOI (Moment of Inertia).
